John Hales (by 1470c. 1540), of The Dungeon, Canterbury, Kent, was an administrator and Baron of the Exchequer.

John Hales of The Dungeon or Dane John,〔(Dane John Manor ) at machadoink.com, accessed 6 January 2013.〕 Canterbury, Kent, was the son of John Hales of Tenterden. The name of his mother is unknown. He was the grandson of Henry Hales of Hales Place in Halden, near Tenterden, Kent.〔R. Cox Hales states that his grandmother was Juliana Capell.〕 He is known to have had one uncle, Thomas Hales, the father of Sir Christopher Hales.〔; .〕
